Top Kid Friendly New York City Vacation Destinations

Our family vacation trips took us to New York City in the summer of 2006. During this time we have many child-friendly destinations. In this article I will list our very favorite and the child of the stops.

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Iceland

The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Iceland was one of our favorite stops on the journey. The ride is easy to become children, and the history park around the statue and Ellis offer Iceland Museumplenty of room for energy to devote between tours. NBC StudioTour

This tour was especially child-friendly and fun. We visited some of the studios, including NBC Nightly News studio, and the Saturday Night Live studio. The tour offers some interactive activities for the group. The group has to go through the motions of creating a newscast also a weather report.

The tour begins in the pastry shop of the NBC Experience store and back ends in the Studio Store.

The Brooklyn Bridge

The bridge is one of thecompletely free in New York City attractions. You can, of course, indicate how much time you want to be on the bridge. There are signs along the bridge listing the history of the bridge. The views of New York City from the bridge is spectacular. The area around the base of the bridge is a beautiful area of downtown New York City. Chinatown is only a few blocks north of the bridge, and is another great place to walk through.

Bridge Over the River Kwai (Or Death Railway Trip)

The River Kwai Bridge was made famous by the 1960 movie about a bamboo bridge, built by British soldiers in Burma during the Second World War. While I was there, I visited the greenhouse conservatory, which houses the rainforest exhibit. Complete with an electrically powered artificial waterfall, this exhibition offers many of the plants that thrive in the rainforest - gingers, anthuriums, ferns, cicadas, impatiens, begonias and other species. There are a number of temperature-controlled greenhouse on the hill, each with a different grouping or categoryplants and flowers. One of the greenhouses features an amazing collection of begonias; another one features mostly Thai medicinal plants and herbs. The most unusual and exotic plant that I encountered there was the Bat Plant (Tacca chantrieri), which is indigenous to Southeast Asia. The greenhouse exhibit featuring an eclectic variety of water lilies and lotuses was most impressive. Check out the stark contrast between the very unique and austere marble planters and the large black pots (see Picture). Factoid - The water lotus is a sacred plant in the Buddhist religion.
